The sandy beach within the well protected bay of Sounio, at the site were in antiqity there used to be the dockyard of the Athenian fleet, is situated opposite to the archaeological site of Sounio.
Many accommodation facilities are available both near the beach and in the broader area of Lavreotiki, especially close to the summer resorts. The beach is ideal not only for a nice swimming but also for gorgeous food, as some taverns at the sea front offer fresh fish and sea food.
The beach is partly organized, but you will also find places without any facilities, apart from some tamarisk trees, offering their shade to swimmers in the hot summer days. The sea is clean and deepens smoothly.
